About Yatesbrook
Yatesbrook is a local information archive focused on astronomy and night-sky observation in Singapore. The content covers equipment selection, observation locations, celestial event schedules, and the practical realities of stargazing from one of the most light-polluted territories on the planet.
Background
The archive was started in 2024 by a small group of amateur astronomers based in Singapore. After years of compiling personal observation notes, equipment comparisons, and location reviews, the decision was made to organise this material into a publicly accessible resource.
The intent is straightforward: to document what is actually visible from Singapore, under real conditions, using equipment that is available locally. Much of the astronomy content available online is written from the perspective of observers in dark-sky regions of North America, Europe, or Australia. Recommendations that assume Bortle 3 skies do not translate directly to a country where Bortle 6 is the best available.
Editorial Approach
All articles are based on direct observation, manufacturer specifications, and published scientific data. Where claims are made about visibility or equipment performance, they are qualified by site conditions and aperture used. External links point to peer-reviewed research, manufacturer documentation, or established institutions such as the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and NASA.
Content is written in a neutral, descriptive tone. The archive does not endorse specific brands, retailers, or organisations, though local availability and pricing are noted where relevant for practical purposes.
